Rain showers to persist due to LPA trough, ‘habagat’

The Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of extreme Northern Luzon has entered the country’s area of responsibility on Wednesday, Sept. 27, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA last spotted the LPA 1,000 kilometers east of Batanes.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA still has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and may dissipate within 24 hours.

However, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region and Masbate will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers due to the trough or extension of the LPA, said Estareja.

He added that another LPA was monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), in the southern portion of Guam, or about 2,140 kilometers southeast of Luzon.

Estareja said the LPA may enter PAR by weekend and that PAGASA is not ruling out the possibility that it may develop into a tropical cyclone in the next two days.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will also be experienced in the northern portion of Palawan and Occidental Mindoro due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat,” said PAGASA.

It also said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will prevail in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

Hot and humid weather conditions will be felt in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon with chances of isolated rain showers in the next three days. (Lizst Torres Abello)
