The National Innovation Council (NIC) on Wednesday, Sept. 27, launched the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) for 2023-2032.

NIC Chairperson President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the event, along with Arsenio M. Balisacan, National Econonmic and Development Authority (NEDA) secretary and NIC vice chairperson, and members of the council from the government and private sectors.

“The very theme of our event today signifies our envisioned future where our citizens can organically transform their knowledge and novel ideas into market-driven, market-oriented, and market-valued innovative products or services,” Balisacan said.

With a theme "Reshaping the Future, Advancing Filipinnovation", the launch aimed to ignite enthusiasm, foster collaboration, and engage all innovation stakeholders in the implementation of the innovation agenda and strategies that will promote Filipinnovation, which will accelerate Philippine progress through innovation.

The NIC was mandated through Republic Act No. 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act which was signed by former President Rodrigo R. Duterte in 2019.

The NIASD is a document that outlines the 10-year vision, long-term goals, and strategies for improving the country’s innovation priorities and governance.

It is aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, which identifies the creation of a dynamic innovation ecosystem as one of its six cross-cutting strategies to sustain rapid and inclusive growth.

It also underscores the government's commitment to support entrepreneurs and innovation actors, through five innovation enablers, namely: the NIC as the innovation governing body, policies, infrastructure, finance, and programs.

The document is anchored on a collaborative and forward-looking approach, with inputs from the academe, international experts, the business sector, and various government agencies.

It was also designed to address the needs of innovators at every stage of the innovation process, from ideation to commercialization.
