JP Maguliano exploded for a season-high 24 points as Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) edged University of Perpetual Help, 75-67, to start its NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball bid on a bright note at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Maguliano also collared nine boards and had two assists and two blocks while also conspiring with Ralph Robin for a 12-0 blitz early in the final quarter that further set the tone for the Generals on their way to their first victory.
“We prepared hard for this tournament. Talagang pinaghandaan namin. Yung pressure, lagi namang andyan. We just need to be ready,” said EAC coach Jerson Cabiltes, adding that he emphasized to his stalwarts the need to start strong.
Robin came through with 12 points sparked by two triples, while Nat Cosejo chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
“Last year na rin niya,” said Cabiltes of Robin. “Medyo crucial three-point shots nya that gave us a good lead.”
The Generals also blanked the Altas from beyond the arc in 28 attempts.
It didn’t help Perpetual that it played minus its best scorer and leader Gelo Razon, who served the one-game suspension he incurred from an unsportsmanlike behavior from their final game a year back.
Carlo Ferreras had a double-double effort of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Marcus Nitura added 11 points in a losing effort for Perpetual, which trailed by as many as 16 points.
