LPA trough, 'habagat' to bring rain showers across PH

The trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon may continue to bring rain showers across the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

PAGASA said the LPA, which was last spotted 1,425 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA still has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, but its trough or extension may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers to Mindanao and Central and Eastern Visayas.

He said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers may also be experienced in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat."

Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains are possible in areas affected by the trough of LPA and habagat, PAGASA warned.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, particularly in high-risk areas. (Lizst Torres Abello)
