DFA coordinates with Canada as ex-PNP chief is questioned by immigration officials
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is coordinating with Canada after former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. was held by the latter's immigration.
The agency in a statement said it is hoping "to get a better understanding of the incident soon" as it already got in touch with Canadian authorities regarding the matter.
This developed as Azurin was reportedly held by Canadian immigration officials upon his arrival at the Langley airport in Canada to supposedly question him regarding the Duterte administration war on drugs.
DFA did not provide further details about the incident.
It said that while its service posts "are ready to assist Filipino travelers, including former government officials, their "cases have privacy issues surrounding them."
