San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta sees more room for improvement despite the Red Lions' 85-61 win over the Arellano Chiefs in their opening NCAA Season 99 game on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Escueta said they must address the team's 11 turnovers and reminded his team to stay composed when the plays get rough.
“It’s still a long way. It’s the first game of the season, we have to play tough, especially in [the] second half. As the season progresses I’m sure other teams will play tougher,” Escueta said after the game.
“We have to be ready with those kinds of games and write it out, [which is] physical games. Kasi medyo nag pisikalan nung dulo. That’s when we commit turnovers, so we have to be better and be able to manage those kinds of defenses against us,” he added.
He, however, applauded his wards for stepping up after losing their starting five from the previous season.
“It’s the players that should be given credit. They took up the challenge of noong mawala starters namin,” Escueta said.
“Isipin mo five starters mawala sayo, [mag]force kang magbi-build. Pero nag step up yung mga players na naiwan,” he added.
