San Beda sizzled behind the arc as it clobbered Arellano, 85-61, to open its NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball campaign on a high note at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

The Red Lions, who seek lost glory since last winning the title in the 2018-19 season, rifled in 14 triples including four each from Jacob Cortez and Damie Cuntapay to join early winners Jose Rizal University and Lyceum at the helm.
Cortez backstopped the Mendiola-based dribblers with 16 points including five assists, three rebounds and two steals, while Cuntapay posted a double-double effort of 13 points and 10 boards.
San Beda dictated the pace throughout, with Cortez and Cuntapay conspiring for seven triples to rip the game wide open with a 57-26 lead coming into the third quarter.
They even led by as many as 33 points.
The Chiefs tried to rally themselves with the help of Jeadan Ongotan and Jerico Camay to great defensive stops, but their effort proved to be their last stand, as they couldn’t bring the Red Lion’s double-digit deficit.
So solid were the Red Lions’ offense that they shot 32-of-68 in field goals for 47 percent compared to the Chiefs’ 25-of-62 for 40 percent.
James Payosing provided offensive help for San Beda with 13 points and eight assists, while Yukien Andrada and Peter Alfaro also finished in twin figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Ongotan finished with 16 points.
