Paseo de Roxas transformed into a "mini-Malaysia" during the much-anticipated Malaysia Week 2023. For two days, on Sept. 16 to 17, this Makati street came alive with the vibrant colors, flavors, and cultural richness of Malaysia.
Themed “Endless Discoveries: This is Malaysia,” the event showcased various aspects of the country’s traditions, cuisine, products, and more.
Suhaimi Abu Hassan Shari, deputy director of International Promotions-ASEAN Tourism Malaysia, opened the program and shared insights into the rich tapestry of Malaysian tourism. This was followed by some opening words from H.E. Dato’ Ambassador Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino Anthony, the Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines, who emphasized the strong bonds between the two nations. Meanwhile, Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Shereen Gail C. Yu-Pamintuan shared her thoughts on the significance of Malaysia Week as a cultural exchange event.
And what an exchange of culture it was, as visitors had the chance to “taste” and “feel” Malaysia through delicious dishes and authentic products, including culinary demonstrations featuring how to make Roti Canai. Guests also witnessed the art of making Teh Tarik, a Malaysian “special-tea,” demoed by staff from Berjaya Hotel Makati. A fashion show put the spotlight on the elegance of Malaysian clothing, which was followed by a unique Batik Sarong styling contest.
Malaysia Week 2023 was a truly unique experience that brought the wonders of Malaysian culture, cuisine, and character.
