A 6.6-magnitude offshore earthquake was recorded in Davao Occidental at 9:39 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake 434 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
It occurred at a depth of 122 km beneath the epicenter.
There was no recorded intensity in the initial bulletin as the earthquake may not have been felt.
Phivolcs said the tremor was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
It said the earthquake may not have caused damage to houses, buildings, and other infrastructure, but advised the public to remain vigilant as aftershocks may occur. (Lizst Torres Abello)
