Bismarck Lina came up huge in the waning seconds as the Nationals led throughout the contest but needed one last run to put the game to rest and pick up their second straight win in as many games in the pool play.
Lina actually scored all of his three points inside the final minute when Gilas created some breathing room after a tight 13-11 count.
Justin Sanchez scored on a putback but was answered by a layup from Wang Jhe Yu as the Taiwanese stayed within striking distance with 37 ticks left. Lina took matters on his own hands, first scoring on a gutsy layup to stretch the lead to three, 15-12.
He then collared a huge offensive board getting fouled, sending him to the charity stripe. Lina coolly sank the two free throws with 18 seconds left to seal the deal for the Filipinos.
John Bryan Sajonia led the way for Gilas anew with six points while Sanchez and John Rey Pasaol added four apiece.
Gilas guns for a 3-0 standing on Wednesday, Sept. 27 when it faces up against Hong Kong.
