Brawner tells Navy: Fight for PH's territory, rights

General Romeo Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), rallied Philippine Navy (PN) personnel to defend the country's territory and rights amid various challenges in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Brawner made the call during his visit at the Navy headquarters in Manila on Tuesday, Sept. 26, where he was welcomed by PN Flag Officer in Command Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr.

"Let us always bear in mind our own interests. We are Filipinos, and we will fight for the Philippines' rights, our sovereing rights, and our territorial integrity," he said.

During his visit, Brawner also checked on the welfare of the sailors and marines.

The AFP chief said that the Navy will play a crucial role not just in territorial defense but also in the development  of the country.

Brawner made the call as the Philippines continues to fight back the aggression of China in the West Philippine Sea.

On Tuesday, a floating barrier installed by Chinese vessels in Bajo de Masinloc near Zambales was removed by the Philippine Coast Guard, earning the approval of the AFP.

The AFP and PCG have also been working together to expose the destruction of coral reefs in different features in WPS last week.

The two agencies have also supported the resupply mission for troops onboard the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal despite China's attempts to block them.
