PH records 161 new Covid-19 cases
DOH calls for continued vigilance, strict safety measures to combat spread of virus
The Department of Health (DOH) reported 161 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, Sept. 25, bringing the total to 4,113,988.

As per DOH, there are 2,905 active Covid-19 cases in the country.
Over the past week, from Sept. 18 to 24, DOH noted that there were 1,164 new cases, with 10 patients in severe or critical condition.
There were also 11 confirmed deaths, as per the DOH, with six occurring between Sept. 11 and 24. This represents a 13 percent increase in daily new cases compared to the previous week.
DOH noted an average of 166 new cases per day, representing a 13 percent “increase” compared to the figures reported from Sept. 11 to 17.
Based on the latest data available, DOH said that hospitals across the country were dealing with the admission of 260 patients classified as severe and critical due to the virus.
The increase in admissions, DOH noted, has placed a significant demand on the country's healthcare resources, particularly impacting the availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds designated for Covid-19 patients.
The DOH reported as of Sept. 25 that 235 beds, or 11.6 percent, of the 2,026 available ICU beds were currently occupied.
Similarly, non-ICU Covid-19 beds were frequently utilized, with 2,903, or 15.23 percent, of the 19,060 available beds in use, while mechanical ventilators, numbering 2,113, had 101 currently in use by Covid-19 patients.
Do not be complacent
Related to this, the DOH reminded the public not to become complacent in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 threat.
DOH stressed the importance of complying with public health standards, such as mask-wearing, seeking well-ventilated areas, and immediate isolation if symptomatic under Alert Level 1.
Vigilance and strict safety measures are essential to combating the Covid-19 spread in the Philippines, the DOH stated.
Vaccination updates
Meanwhile, DOH said that more than 78 million individuals in the country, exceeding the target population by 100.44 percent, have received Covid-19 vaccinations. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
