Murder suspect killed in Basilan shootout

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A murder suspect was killed and his cohort was arrested during a law enforcement operation in Barangay Parang Basak, Lamitan City, Basilan on Sunday, September 24.

The fatality was identified as Cantino Hamsalin, who is facing murder and frustrated murder charges before the Isabela City, Basilan Regional Trial Court.

Police were serving a warrant of arrest on Cantino when he fired his gun at lawmen.

A brief firefight erupted between Cantino and the police in which he was killed.

Cantino's cohort and cousin, Jawari Hamsalin, was arrested. Jawari did not resist arrest.
