Gilas Pilipinas was off to a winning start in the men’s 3x3 basketball event, taking down Jordan, 13-8, in the 19th Asian Games at the Deqing Geographic Information Par Basketball Court in Hangzhou, China.

John Bryan Sajonia led the way for the Filipinos as he anchored a 6-2 run to pull away and cruise to their first win in the pool play.
The former FEU standout Sajonia finished with six points while Bismark Lina from San Beda added four.
It was actually the two who connived in the telling run with Sajonia scoring on back-to-back baskets before Lina followed suit with his own two straight points to take an 8-4 lead with 4:12 remaining.
Jordan tried to fight back but a deuce from Sajonia to seize an 11-5 lead with 2:51 left slammed the door on any comeback for the Falcons.
Up next for Gilas is the match against Chinese Taipei on Tuesday before wrapping up its schedule against Hong Kong and Mongolia on Wednesday and Friday respectively.
