Cebu resort owner nabbed for unlicensed guns


CEBU CITY – Police arrested a resort owner in Compostela town, northern Cebu after several firearms were recovered during a raid in his house at dawn on Sunday, September 24.

The house of Joaquin Condevillamar Paez, 77, was raided by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Mandaue City Field Unit based on a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Allan Francisco Garciano of the Regional Trial Court Branch 83 in Mandaue City.

According to the police, gun owners pawned their unlicensed firearms to Paez. Paez was also allegedly involved in selling firearms and bullets, police added.

Among the items seized from the suspect’s house were an Ingram caliber 9mm, a 380 Caspian pistol, a .357 magnum caliber, a .357 Smith and Wesson magnum revolver, and a .45 caliber pistol. Various ammunition was also recovered during the raid.

Police said the suspect will be charged for violation of the election gun ban and the Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
