Security Bank Corp. (SBC) has upgraded its information safety and security standards as part of it efforts to increase digitalization and improve the bank’s cybersecurity.
The country's 10th biggest bank, SBC announced Monday, Sept. 25, that it has recently attained an ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification with its BetterBanking eXperience digital transformation.
It said this program “aims elevate its banking services for retail, corporate, commercial” and especially to micro, small and medium enterprise clients with “seamless, omni-channel customer experiences, enabled by a future-proof common technology stack”.
“With an increased focus on digitalization, Security Bank takes a proactive approach to information and cybersecurity,” according to Albert de la Cruz, first vice president and SBC’s head of Information Security.
De la Cruz said the stakes “have never been higher” and that banking digital transformation “is moving at breakneck speed.”
“More and more customers are transacting online across various digital channels, potentially putting their sensitive information at risk,” he said, adding that its ISO27001:2022 certification “is further proof of our forward-thinking dedication to safeguarding our customers’ information.”
SBC received ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification from The British Standards Institution (BSI) on Sept. 21, 2023. This makes the bank the first local bank to attain an upgraded Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification.
In adopting the ISO or the International Organization for Standardization and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 27001:2022 certification standards, SBC said BSI has evaluated its information security risks to determine and implement a comprehensive suite of information security controls within the overall framework of a coherent management system.
“The ISO 27001:2022 certification is more than just a recognition; it's a reflection of our Bank's culture of continuous improvement and our proactive approach to managing risks in an ever-evolving digital landscape. It underscores our promise to uphold confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, ensuring trust and confidence in our services,” said Lucose Eralil, SBC’s executive vice president and and head of Enterprise Technology & Operations Segment.
BSI recognized SBC’s “ongoing effort to guarantee and maximize safety and security to all its stakeholders” and that as a financial institution compliant ISO/ IEC 27001:2022, the bank continues to build trust and exceed values for their customers.”
BSI is one of the world’s leading standards bodies and founding member of ISO. It helps organizations globally through standards creation, system certification, supplier verification, and training activities to manage risk, reduce costs, and ensure sustainability.
