Scattered rain showers to prevail over parts of PH due to enhanced 'habagat', trough of LPA
Most of Luzon and Visayas may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the enhanced southwest monsoon and the trough of a low pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 24.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA 435 kilometers north-northwest of Pag-asa Island, Palawan has no direct effect on any part of the country, but it may slightly enhance the effect of the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”
The habagat may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas.
Meanwhile, Estareja said PAGASA is also monitoring another LPA outside the Philippine area of responsibility or about 2,625 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.
The trough or extension of the LPA east of the country may cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas.
Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains are possible in these areas, PAGASA warned.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, particularly in high-risk areas.
