P2.4-M lost in Negros Occidental market fire


BACOLOD CITY – A fire destroyed the Marcelo Public Market in the upland part of Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Saturday night, September 23.

Fire Officer 3 Maria Krisna Hugo, ground commander of the Calatrava Municipal Fire Station, who led the fire response, said the blaze left an estimated P2.4 million worth of damage, covering a land area of about 200-square meters.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received a fire call around 7:30 p.m. The fire was raised to second alarm as it gobbled the structure made of light materials.

Hugo said that no injuries were reported in the fire. The BFP declared fire out around 9:40 p.m.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire.
