SOLSONA, Ilocos Norte – A modified tricycle driver was killed in a collision with a truck on the national highway in Barangay Juan, this town, on Saturday, September 23.
Police identified the victim as Joel Asuncion, 39, a resident of Barangay Man-anteng, Solsona.
Investigation said the victim was driving a “kurung- kurung” or modified tricycle and tried to overtake a vehicle. However, he failed to notice the oncoming truck driven by Warren Ramos, 30, a resident of Barangay Maan-anteng, Solsona.
Ramos tried to maneuver the truck away but still hit the modified tricycle. The truck rammed into a tree beside the road.
Both drivers sustained injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital. However, Asuncion died before reaching the hospital due to serious body injuries.
Ramos has been discharged from the hospital and under police custody. Follow-up probe is ongoing.
