As a response to the lingering volcanic smog (vog) from Taal Volcano, Anakalusugan Party-list made rounds in several towns in the province of Batangas over the weekend to donate face masks.

Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray Reyes said face mask donation operations took place in the municipalities of Nasugbu, Tuy, and Balayan.

"Anakalusugan's advocacy has always been centered around bringing healthcare closer to the people. Apart from our regular medical and dental missions, we make it a point to always help affected residents whenever health emergencies arise," said Reyes, a neophyte solon in the 19th Congress, in a statement Sunday, Sept. 24.

Reyes also appealed to the Department of Health (DOH) to distribute N95 face masks and other protective equipment to local government units (LGUs) and affected communities as a precaution to future vog incidence.

"Let us be proactive. Kahit na humupa na kahit papaano ang vog sa paligid ng bulkan, kailangan po natin maging handa lalo na't nasa alert level one pa rin ang Taal," the lawmaker said.

(Even as the vog has subsided, we still need to be prepared especially since Taal is still at an alert level one.)

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), vog from Taal volcano had already cleared thanks to the recent rains and thunderstorms.
