Playing their third straight game in three days and after their breakthrough wins against South Korea and Japan to open the knockout rounds, the already World Cup-bound Nationals always looked a step behind the Australians who flexed their might early on and never really looked back.

The size and quickness of Australia proved to be the biggest problem for the Filipinos especially on the defensive end as they never really got into a rhythm all-game long resulting in their tournament low scoring and absorbing a thorough beating as the lead went up to as many as 60 points.

Australia dealt the finishing blow in the second frame where it embarked on a furious 27-0 run that ultimately took the fight out of the Filipinos.

Dash Daniels led the rout with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while Henry Sewell added 10 markers and 11 boards.

No player scored in double figures for Gilas with leading scorer Kiefer Alas, after exploding for 29 points the last game, was limited to just two points. Irus Chua and CJ Amos were the best scorers with six apiece.

All is not lost for Gilas as it can still gun for a podium finish when it takes on rival China in the battle for third on Sunday night.
