Here’s how to wear the spirit of the ’ber months, based on fall 2023 trends that are all the rage

Red looks good on you
The redder, the better. Whether it is tomato red at Tory Burch or the fiery monochromes of incandescent red at Hermès, it turns heads and makes your presence felt.

Workplace chic
You need not be the office type to pull off this look, which is very sexy this season. Think Dua Lipa in a blazer on a night on the town. The boxy blazer you’ve been wearing, though, if the fall deliveries are any indication, should give way to a more narrowly cut style, like the equestrian-inspired double-breasted blazer at Stella McCartney, which has an equivalent at Mango, or the tweed blazer at Bottega Veneta.

Will the Mango Block Heel Metallic Shoes be available here? Will the Zara Metallic Cowboy Boots be OK in Manila weather? And then there’s the Tres Vivier satin-jacquard Mary Jane flats at Roger Vivier, which are extremely wearable. In any case, all are in shiny, blinding silver, which is all the rage in this fall-winter fashion season. If you aren’t a fan of silver, any color will do as long as it has a metallic sheen, like the Veralli ballet flats in glimmering gold at Manolo Blahnik or the Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza ballet flats in glittered PVC.

Straight from the shoulder
The killer shoulder is back with a vengeance and, if you got the collarbone to show, well, flaunt it in this season’s off-the-shoulder trend. Do it in, say, Alexander Wang’s wrap top, fabulous in powder blue or white, or Givenchy’s ruched straight neckline top, or Carolina Herrera’s off-the-shoulder silhouette dressed with puffed sleeves and straps.

The ’ber months used to be brrr months, not anymore, sadly due to climate change, so there’s no need to get wrapped up from tip to toe. If not a cold shoulder, go for a scoop-neck top, like the wiggle dress at Ferragamo, or go for a navel grazer, like the Chanel maxi dress with a plunge v-neckline seen on Sex Education’s Emma Mackey at the Opera Garnier’s opening season gala in Paris.
