Bishop Pabillo pays tribute to seafarers, migrant workers
Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay in Palawan Bishop and Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Office on Stewardship chairman Broderick Pabillo paid tribute to Filipino seafarers and migrants workers on Sunday, Sept. 24, as the nation observes National Seafarers Day and National Migrants Sunday.

Bishop Pabillo called on the public to remember the sacrifices, hardships and hard work done by overseas Filipino workers for their families and loved ones.
“Let us remember to pay tribute to our OFWs and other migrant workers for all their sacrifices. Let us always remember them in our prayers,” the Church leader said over Radio Veritas.
The prelate cited the valuable contributions of the country’s seafarers and migrant workers not only to their families but also to the Philippine economy.
Data from the Central Bank of the Philippines show that the remittances sent by Filipino migrant workers in 2022 amounted to Php 36 billion dollars, which is about 4 percent higher compared to the remittances in 2021.
Majority of the remittances came from OFWs in the United States, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
This year marks the 37th National Migrants Sunday and the 28th National Seafarers Day.
There are about 10 million Filipino migrant workers in different parts of the world.
Antipolo Bishop Ruperto C. Santos, CBCP Bishop Promoter for Stella Maris Philippines also paid tribute to the country’s seafarers as he cited their valuable contributions to the country’s economy.
