A security driver was arrested by police for carrying a gun at a checkpoint in Pasay City Saturday, Sept. 23.
Col. Froilan Uy, city police chief, identified the suspect as Melecio Peralta, 41.
Uy said Peralta was arrested at around 3:50 a.m. on service road of Roxas Boulevard corner Antipolo St. in Barangay 10, Pasay City.
Police said members of Pasay Police Substation 1 (SS1) assigned at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex flagged down the suspect, who was on board his car, for a routine inspection at the checkpoint.
Arresting officers reportedly noticed a firearm protruding from inside Peralta’s pouch bag when he was about to get his driver’s license.
Recovered from Peralta were one .45-caliber pistol, one magazine, and eight live ammunitions.
The suspect was immediately detained at the Pasay police custodial facility after his arrest.
He is facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 10591 (illegal possession of firearms) and RA No. 7166 (Omnibus Election Code).
