CEBU CITY – Mac Tallo let out a loud roar – a fitting display of emotions following a hard-earned win that ended the agony of past defeats in the last 15 months.

With Manila Chooks! searching for ways to shake off a hard-fighting and higher-ranked Futian team, Tallo answered the call and scored the last four points for the Filipinos to come away with a thrilling 21-17 victory in the Chooks-To-Go FIBA 3x3 World Tour Cebu Masters.
A scenario that showed exactly why he’s regarded as the best 3x3 player in the country
Tallo exploded for nine points – none bigger than the last two where he drilled the game-clinching deuce that sent the Filipinos to the playoffs – and the energetic crowd in frenzy inside the SM Seaside City Cebu.
Even before that, the 6-foot playmaker displayed an unwavering resolve scoring on layups – including a tough layup over the outstretched arms of defenders to pump some life into the team’s cause.
And it was not Tallo alone, imports Marcus Hammonds and Tosh Sesay, who willingly stepped up in the absence of injured players Paul Desiderio and Dennis Santos also had their share in the win.
Hammonds finished with five points while Sesay added four as the Filipinos finally ended a series of winless runs in 3x3 tournaments and finished second in its group with a 1-1 record.
The reward to the gutsy win? A knockout match against the world No. 1 UB Huishan NE of Serbia. But Tallo is unfazed.
"(Kahit) ma-injure tayo ibuhos na natin lahat kasi we never- I think it's been a year [na] hindi kami nakapasok ng day 2 [ng tournament] at ito na iyon, finally, nakapasok na kami. Hopefully, iyong momentum namin sa last game, madala namin bukas," said Tallo.
Meantime, the Lubao MCFASolver bowed out of contention after a 21-17 defeat to Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy of Mongolia. It was a heartbreaking end to the team’s campaign who crawled from all the way up to the main draw after sweeping the qualifying draw early in the tournament.
The Filipinos, however, seemed to have lost steam, bowing to Miami in their first game that put them on brink of elimination.
