2023 Bar exams to be checked personally by 4 examiners per subject, not thru artificial intelligence -- SC
The 2023 online Bar examinations will be checked personally by four examiners per subject and not through artificial intelligence (AI) as claimed in at least two Facebook accounts, the Supreme Court (SC) said.
Through Associate Justice Ramon Paul L. Hernando, chairperson of the 2023 Bar examinations committee, the SC has traced the authorship of social media accounts -- Bar Law for Dummies Training Program and Tzidkenu Dizon -- and has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for a criminal probe.
Justice Hernando has assailed “these social media publications as false, baseless, irresponsible, defamatory, contumacious, detestable, and formulated with apparent intent to erode the integrity of the digitalized Bar examinations.”
“The 2023 Bar Examinations shall be checked by four (4) examiners per subject, all of whom are established experts in their respective fields, and who are by no means created or powered by artificial intelligence,” he pointed out.
AI “is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems.”
Hernando also said: “The initial probe commenced by the Office of the 2023 Bar Chair has unveiled the identity of the administrator of both Facebook accounts. The Court is currently undertaking proper measures against the said individual, particularly, the prompt engagement of the National Bureau of Investigation in the conduct of criminal investigation of the nefarious activities and questionable circumstances surrounding this personality.”
The last day of the three-day Bar examinations will be on Sunday, Sept. 24. Covered subjects are Criminal Law and Remedial Law in the morning and Legal and Judicial Ethics with Practical Exercises in the afternoon.
The SC had earlier said that a total of 10,391 examinees took and completed the first two days of the examinations in 14 local testing centers (LTCs) nationwide.
During the second day of the examinations last Sept. 20, several SC justices, led by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo and Hernando, visited the LTCs to personally observe and join about 2,310 Bar personnel in the conduct of the examinations.
The SC’s public information office (PIO) said that Chief Justice Gesmundo travelled to Tacloban City to visit the Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation (DVOREF), one of the 14 LTCs.
Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen visited the LTC in Saint Louis University in Baguio City, while Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa observed the examinations at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and and San Beda University–Manila (SBU).
Justice Hernando visited the Cagayan State University (CSU), flew back to Manila and went to the University of the Philippines – Bonifacio Global City (UP-BGC) in Taguig City and the Manila Adventist College (MAC) in Pasay City, before returning to the SC’s headquarters at the San Beda College-Alabang in Muntinlupa City.
The other SC justices who visited LTCs were: Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier in UST, MAC, and SBU in the National Capital Region; Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting in UST and MAC; Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez in Xavier University (XU) in Cagayan de Oro City; Associate Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan in UP-BGC and in the 2023 Bar National Headquarters (NHQ) in San Beda College Alabang (SBCA);
Associate Justice Jhosep Y. Lopez in University of San Carlos (USC) and University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) in Cebu City; Associate Justice Japar B. Dimaampao in UST and SBU; Associate Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez in DVOREF; Associate Justice Antonio T. Kho, Jr. in the UST, SBU, and SBCA; and Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh in MAC, SBU, UST, and University of the Philippines-Diliman (UPD).
During the first day of the examinations last Sept. 17, Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez monitored the UPD LTC, while Associate Justices Rodil V. Zalameda and Ricardo R. Rosario visited the SBCA NHQ and MAC, respectively.
The SC had earlier announced that the results of the bar examinations will be release in early December and the oath-taking and signing of the Rolls of Attorneys will be held before Christmas.
