UST Museum, Artiste Musaeum jointly mount ‘Nusantara’ exhibition on Indonesian Objet d’Arts
Art enthusiasts and culture aficionados are invited to embark on a captivating journey into the heart of Indonesian art and culture as the University of Santo Tomas Museum and Artiste Musaeum proudly present “Nusantara: A Celebration of Indonesian Art and Culture,” The exhibition was unveiled on Sept. 5 at the main gallery of the UST Museum.


The term “Nusantara” is derived from combining two old Javanese words, nusa (island) and antara (between). Combined, it refers to the Malaysian Archipelago (Singapore, Brunei, and Malaysia) along with Indonesia and the Philippines. It also embodies the exhibition’s essence of unity in diversity and is a testament to the artistic brilliance, historical significance, and cultural vibrancy of the area.

Curated by Anthony V. Gedang, owner of Artiste Musaeum, “Nusantara” promises to let visitors experience the magic of Indonesia’s indigenous traditions, artistic mastery, and captivating stories. From anthropomorphic sculptures, tribal masks, accessories, and Wayang Kulit shadow puppets, “Nusantara” showcases the profound connection between art and identity.
With a deep appreciation for Indonesia’s artistic heritage, Gedang exhibits “Nusantara” to honor the nation’s artistic genius, while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of its cultural tapestry.


“Nusantara” is a collaboration between the International Council of Museums—Philippines (ICOM Phils), Artiste Musaeum, and UST Museum under its director, Rev. Fr. Isidro Abaño, O.P. The exhibition runs until Sept. 25.


The UST Museum is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays to Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Entrance costs are ₱30.00 for non-Thomasian students with student ID, and ₱50.00 for non-students. Thomasian students, faculty, support staff, and alumni with ID may enter for free.

EUr “Pathways to Excellence” start at EHEF 2023
To promote student mobility and the pursuit of academic excellence, the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and the European Union Member States’ embassies are organizing this year’s European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) 2023.


The fair will be held onsite on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City. Its online edition will be held on Oct. 2 at ehefphilippines.com and through the FB page of the European Higher Education Fair at @ehefphilippines.


Being the biggest and longest-running education fair in the country, EHEF offers a unique opportunity for Filipino students, professionals, academe, researchers, and university officials to engage directly with some of the top higher education institutions from the EU.


Recognizing that education knows no geographical boundaries, this year’s theme “Pathways to Excellence” shows the European Union’s commitment to offering Filipino students an immersive platform to explore diverse fields of study and unlock unparalleled opportunities on a global scale.


EHEF 2023 will feature 85 higher education institutions and diplomatic missions participating on-ground and online from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Finland, and Sweden.


Language corners will be available to those who are interested in learning a new language. On-site seminars will be hosted by the European Union member states, embassies, and cultural institutes. These engaging sessions will provide in-depth information on higher education systems, student life in Europe, research grants, and scholarship opportunities like Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and Jean Monnet, open for students and educators alike.
