(From left) Jefrey Roda, Marvin Asis and Bernie Regalario aim for the top honors in two tournaments in Vietnam.

Roda, 23, came close to claiming a giant-sized victory in the 2019 IBSF World Men’s Championships in Antalya, Turkey four years ago before he wilted under tremendous pressure and settled for the silver.

But as a junior, Roda was a decorated warrior after having topped the Asian Junior Pool in Chinese Taipei eight years back and settled for the silver in the World Juniors Pool in Shanghai, China the year before.

And on this next journey, Roda hopes to lead Regalario and Asis to triumphs as they also see action in the Hanoi Open Pool Championships scheduled Oct. 10 to 15 and a competition in Singapore from Nov 29 to Dec. 4.

“I will do my best to win,” said Roda.

Interestingly, James Aranas, who teamed up with Johan Chua in ruling the World Cup of Pool in Spain last July, is scheduled to join Roda, Regalario and Asis in the Hanoi Open.

All four are under the Marboys Billiards Club of JR Velasco and Marvin Paringit.

“Time and time again, our cue athletes have proven their excellence and ability to win medals in cue sports, like in the recent World Cup of Pool in Europe. We want to build on that momentum and further strengthen men’s participation through this event,” said Velasco.

"We are happy to inform you that we were able to secure a professional contract from Peri Cues for Bernie Regalario for 3 years while Marvin Asis signed with Cueless and Omin Cues along with James Aranas for five years,” he added.
