Helper slashes sleeping student's neck

TACLOBAN CITY – A 19-year-old student was wounded after his neck was slashed by a helper while he was sleeping at his teacher's house on Thursday, September 21, in Calbayog City, Samar.

The victim was identified as Kenth Ashly Ferrer, a resident of Barangay Beloso in the island-town of Almagro, Samar.

A STUDENT from the island-town of Almagro, Samar was wounded when his neck was suddenly slashed by a helper while he was sleeping in Calbayog City, Samar.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was a student of teacher Nieves Geras who attended a seminar with her in Catbalogan City, Samar.

Since there was no more trip available to Almagro from Calbayog on Thursday afternoon, Geras, a resident of Barangay Mabuhay also in Almagro, offered his student to stay the night at her house.

The suspect, Melvin Campong, 27, Geras’ helper, slashed Ferrer’s neck while he was sleeping at about 3:30 a.m.

The victim ran for help while covering his wound with a cloth. He was taken to the Saint Camillus Hospital and was later referred to Eastern Visayas Medical Center here.

Police arrested Campong. Motive of the incident is yet to be determined.
