After absorbing a 7-1 loss to powerhouse Japan, the Blu Girls vented their ire on Malaysia University Varsyti, 13-0, and Southside Stingers of Australia, 7-0.

As if it was not enough, the Blu Girls pounced on Lakidende of host Indonesia, 8-0, before crushing Miramar of New Zealand, 6-0.

“These victories underscore our team’s capabilities and commitment to excellence,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) President Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“The Makassar Open is an important avenue for us to demonstrate our preparedness for global competition, and our performance so far has been a strong testament to our potential,” he added.

Lhuillier also said the team’s comprehensive performances have made them one of the teams to watch as the tournament progresses, and its lone loss to Japan has done little to dampen its status as strong contenders.

The tournament serves as the Blu Girls’ final buildup for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where they aim to finally make it to the podium after back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang editions.

The softball competition in Hangzhou is scheduled on Sept. 26 at the Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Centre.
