Balancing innovation, safety: Herbosa addresses TB Innovation Summit 3.0 in New York City
The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Friday, Sept. 22, that Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa took part in the Tuberculosis Innovation Summit 3.0 held in New York City, USA this week.

During the summit held on Sept. 19, Herbosa provided insights into the Philippines' progress in tuberculosis (TB) elimination and outlined the country's plans to integrate new TB innovations into its TB program.
He underscored the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to facilitate the efficient and swift implementation of technological advancements.
Herbosa also shared his perspective on the delicate balance between enforcing regulatory standards to ensure safety and fostering an environment where innovations can thrive and support government initiatives.
The DOH said that the TB Innovation Summit 3.0, organized by the Stop TB Partnership, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency, featured four sessions that explored strategies for post-Covid-19 TB eradication, the expansion of current TB innovations, the transformation of how and where TB services are accessed and delivered, and the expedited scaling-up of new TB innovations.
The summit was also attended by SD Biosensor Chief Operating Officer Serena Cho, GSK Chief Global Health Officer Thomas Breuer, and Serum Institute of India Director for Research & Development Dr. Umesh Shaligram. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
