Pasay LGU, McDonald's PH ink employment deal for senior citizens, PWDs

The Pasay City government signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with McDonald’s Philippines and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to give employment to the city’s senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) on Sept. 20.

Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the signatories to the MOA were Ruben Marasigan, vice-president for human capital group, representing McDonald’s Philippines, and Atty. Sarah Buena Mirasol, Regional Director of DOLE.

Rubiano said that under the agreement, McDonald’s Philippines will hire senior citizens and PWDs in the city to work as crew members of the fast food chain for five months and will receive the same salary as regular employees.

The mayor said the PWDs who will be hired will be on a probationary period and will be given the chance to work as a regular employee depending on their work capability.

Rubiano said she was the main proponent of Republic Act 10911or the Anti-Age Discrimination in Employment Act which aims to give equal job opportunities to senior citizens when she was still in Congress.

She said the program is part of her administration’s HELP (Health care and Housing, Education, Economic Growth and Environment, Livelihood and Lifestyle and Peace and order, Pamilya (family) and Palengke (market) program.
