ILIGAN CITY – Three supporters of an Abu Sayyaf Group leader surrendered to the 1101st Infantry Brigade led by Brig. Gen. Eugene Boquio in Bud Bayug, Talipao, Sulu on Tuesday, September 19.
Boquio said that the surrenderers were supporters of ASG sub-leader Abduljihad Susukan, alias “Idang.”
Their surrender was facilitated by the 2nd Special Forces Battalion, 41st Infantry Battalion, Tactical Operations Group Sulu Tawi-Tawi, and the 1101st Infantry Brigade.
They handed over a Garand rifle, one Carbine rifle, and one caliber .45 pistol.
Joint Task Force Sulu commander Major Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio commended troops for facilitating their surrender.
Patrimonio enjoined remaining members and supporters of the ASG to surrender to authorities.
The military and the provincial government of Sulu had earlier presented 30 ASG returnees to Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. during the 633rd Bangsa Sug Day on September 18.
“We welcome all the former violent extremists who decided to give value to their own and their family’s lives. Rest assured that we will assist them in their reintegration into mainstream society,” Major Gen. Steve Crespillo, Western Mindanao Command chief, said.
“We attribute all our successes to the support of the local government and the peace-loving people of Sulu in our efforts to end terrorism and bring lasting peace and progress in the beautiful island province.”
