As stated by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Famadico’s decision to resign was due to the “recent hospitalization because of a serious heart ailment.”

“We pray for the healing and recovery of Bishop Ben, who rendered 10 years of pastoral service to the faithful of San Pablo,” CBCP Secretary General Msgr. Bernado Pantin said.

Meanwhile, Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara of Pasig was appointed as the apostolic administrator sede vacante of the diocese in Laguna province by Pope Francis.

Furthermore, Vergara would temporarily oversee the diocese of San Pablo until the new bishop has been appointed.

“We also pray for Bishop Vergara who will pastorally govern the said diocese until a new bishop is appointed by the Holy Father,” Pantin added.  (Erika Mariel Custodio Escover)
