TABONTABON, Leyte – The local government underwent a national validation as it vied for the most coveted Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
The SGLG, a progressive assessment system that gives distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas, highlights integrity and good performance to institutionalize local governance reforms in the continuing pursuit of meaningful local autonomy and development.

This town is among the six municipalities in Leyte and 41 local government units in Eastern Visayas contending for the award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Mayor Efren Redoña here expressed optimism that they will meet the SGLG indicators and pass the validation held on Wednesday, September 20.
A team of 14 validators from the DILG-Caraga headed by Regional Director Maria Loisella Lucino and Assistant Regional Director Donald Seronay conducted the validation.
"To reach this level is already an honor for us, which means we are able to follow the procedures as much as local governance is concerned," Redoña said.
He said that during the national calibration in Manila, only Tabontabon was cited as the "clear passer" in the province which added to their chances.
This municipality has consistently passed the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping.
Redoña noted that this recognition would give more confidence from national government agencies to implement projects and download funds since they can be assured that the funds will be spent wisely as an SGLG passer.
