Gilas plays tune-up match vs LG Sakers ahead of Asian Games

Gilas Pilipinas will open its tuneup match to the public against LG Sakers on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City at 4 p.m. before the squad flies to China for the Asian Games.

While the team practices are more important according to interim head coach Tim Cone, the friendly match will also gauge where the Nationals are at after a brief break since the FIBA World Cup.

At the moment, the status of the players from the supposed Final 12 lineup remained up in the air as potential last-minute replacements are to be made.

As per the Ginebra coach, it’s not the first time for the Korean club team to play tune-up matches in the Philippines.

After the Gilas men’s joint open practice with the women’s side, Cone wanted to continue drumming up support for the national team when it makes its return to the Asiad.

Unfortunately, most of the World Cup players were the first to reveal their unavailability for the Asian Games as club duties overseas resumed.

Landing in Group C, the Philippines will open its campaign against Bahrain on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
