Construction worker carrying hand grenade nabbed in Pasig City
A construction worker carrying a hand grenade was arrested by police at a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint in Barangay Ilog, Pasig City on Tuesday night, Sept. 19.
Pasig Police Chief Col. Celerino Sacro identified the suspect as "Robin," 27, a construction worker from Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
Initial investigation showed that Caniogan Police Substation (SS2) personnel flagged down the suspect, who was onboard a motorcycle with no plate number, at the checkpoint along Avis Street at 11 p.m.
The suspect was asked by police to present his driver’s license and documents pertaining to his legal ownership of the vehicle.
Upon opening his sling bag to gather the documents, police said they saw a hand grenade placed inside the bag.
The suspect failed to present documents validating his possession of the explosive, leading to his arrest and confiscation of the MK2 hand grenade.
He is facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9516 or illegal possession of explosives in relation to Batas Pambansa (BP) 881 or the "Omnibus Election Code."
