Capital A Berhad, a multi-national airline group, is set to begin a new chapter on travel innovation as it transforms its digital arm, Airasia Digital, into Move Digital. The company’s CEO, Tony Fernandes, made the announcement last Sep. 18 in Kuala Lumpur. With this brand refresh, the company also aims to strengthen the growth of its other assets under Move Digital, which are travel app Airasia Superapp and fintech provider Bigpay.
The change also includes the rebranding of Airasia Superapp into Airasia Move. In the coming months, users will see the changes in the travel app, complete with its shift from the color red to green.
According to Fernandes, the rebranding is influenced both by the app users and the management. “When you think about it, red is owned by Airasia. So in Airasia Superapp, no matter what you do, people are going to see it as Airasia the airline,” he told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “We want to be much more than that. By changing it to green, we are more than selling tickets.”
“Rebranding is about alerting the people that we have changed,” Fernandes added. “What do we do best? We move people around... I like to create brands that are easy to understand.”
Since its launch in 2020, Airasia Superapp, now Airasia Move, has been the go-to travel platform for many people, with over 15 million users according to Capital A Berhad. Apart from scoring travel deals from a variety of airlines it hosts, the app also allows travelers to discover the best places to stay, dine, and shop at friendly costs and also enables them to earn rewards with every purchase. Some of its features, however, are yet to be available in the Philippines like its ride service. Likewise, Bigpay is also yet to make its launch in the country.
Fernandes, who also announced himself as the executive chairman of Move Digital, envisions widening the purpose of the brands under the umbrella of Capital A Berhad’s digital arm. During the rebrand launch, he presented the merging of Airasia Move and Bigpay into one platform. He is also set to create a stronger online community of people who use Move Digital’s brands through mobile gifting, split payments, content sharing, and communication channels, among others.
Apart from Fernandes, leading this new chapter of Move Digital as well are Nadia Omer as incoming CEO of Airasia Move and Zubin Rada Krishnan as CEO of Bigpay.
“Imagine seamless access to travel and financial services on one single platform, with integrated financial features such as balance display, top-up, and payments from Bigpay and further strengthening the value proposition of Airasia Move as the travel app of choice.” Fernandes said. “My role as the executive chairman of Move will be to enhance synergy between both businesses. With this change, the market can expect an enriching user experience aside from more integration of Bigpay features within the Airasia Move very soon.”
