Members of Anakbayan on Thursday, Sept. 21, joined the protests in Liwasang Bonifacio to reiterate calls against budget cuts for public universities as the country commemorated the 51st anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.
For Anakbayan, remembering the declaration of Martial Law is not only to utter the line "Never Again, Never Forget" but also to amplify calls on certain issues.
"Anakbayan believes that Martial Law commemoration shouldn't only be a commemorative event, especially now that the Marcoses are back in power," it said.
Anakbayan said that the Marcos administration is "killing" the rights to education of youth in the country.
"With the recent approval of Tuition and Other Fees Increase in schools and Budget Cuts for Public Universities, the groups believes that the Marcos administration is killing the youth's right to education in the Philippines," it added.
The protest started at the main gate of the University of Santo Tomas before the group together with the schools including the University of the East (UE), Far Eastern University (FEU), and National University (NU) marched towards Morayta. (Lizst Torres Abello)
