8 blast fishers nabbed in Bataan


CAMP Olivas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – Authorities apprehended eight fishermen for alleged dynamite fishing in the sea of Limay, Bataan on Tuesday, September 19.

Police said five suspects with the surnames Maceda, Bernaldo, Tapion, and Villanueva were on an unmarked fishing boat.

On the other hand, a suspect surnamed Punay and two more individuals with the surname Villanueva were nabbed on board a fishing boat with the markings FB Pam-Dave.

The suspects were caught harvesting alubaybay fish which was indicative of dynamite fishing and confirmed by a fish examiner from the Provincial Agriculturist of Bataan.

Authorities confiscated approximately 200 grams of Alubaybay valued at P9,800, three fish finders worth P45,000, six sets of fine fish nets valued at P42,000, and three fishing boats equipped with motors worth P150,000.

Suspects were taken into custody aboard various fishing vessels within municipal waters.

They face charges for violation of Section 92 of Republic Act 10654 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.
