4 Bacolod BSKE bets withdraw

BACOLOD CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that four candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) here next month have withdrawn their candidacies.

Kathrina Trinio-Caña, head of Comelec-Bacolod, said these candidates – a barangay and SK kagawad (councilor) in Baragay Mansilingan, an SK kagawad in Barangay 38, and a kagawad in another barangay – did not cite a reason for backing out but probably realized how tiring the election is.

Caña said that there was an attempt to disqualify them but the Comelec did not accept it because it was not a verified petition.

Comelec data showed that 2,917 candidates filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) from August 28 to September 2 here.

One-hundred sixty-one are running for barangay captain, 1,590 for barangay kagawad, 166 for SK chairman, and 1,000 for SK kagawad.

Caña said they already have the list of candidates but they are still checking the encoding of names for accuracy.
