Police said it was raining hard past 7 p.m. on when the boy asked permission from his grandmother that he would go to his neighbor’s house.

The grandmother tried to prevent her grandson from going out of the house because of the bad weather but the boy insisted.

The boy failed to make it home. The following morning, a neighbor found the boy slumped on the ground with the trunk of a coconut tree on top of him.

Neighbors suspected that the boy was walking under coconut trees when one of them was hit by lightning and fell on the passing victim.

Police said there were also indications that the middle part of the trunk was already frail and broke when the boy was passing by.

In Santander town, southern Cebu, a person with special needs died after a seawall collapsed on him on Thursday morning, September 21.

The victim was identified as Ruben Villamor.

Police said Villamor was sleeping near the seawall when the structure collapsed. Police said the foundation of the seawall may have weakened due to incessant rains in the past days.
