Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS) Managing Director, Tarun Sareen, is on a resolute two-fold mission. On one hand, he, along with his leadership, is on the mission to establish a strong positioning for Sun Life Global Solutions, and on the other hand, they are accelerating their talent strategy to drive stronger value for Sun Life, clients, and people.
A digital and innovation hub, SLGS is a shared service for all of Sun Life across 28 geos. The overriding purpose of Sun Life, from the very onset, has been to help their clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives, and Sun Life Global Solutions operates to bring this purpose to life. Over the years, they have evolved as a capability hub, creating many assets for the organization like Client Care Centre, Operations, technology, finance shared services, actuarial and legal services, amongst others. Today, SLGS has emerged as the in-house solutions provider. They are deepening and expanding capabilities across Digital, Tech, Operations and shared services to become more solution-oriented and inculcate an innovation mindset to maximize client impact and ensure the success of Sun Life's Business Groups (BGs) across the globe.
Sun Life Global Solutions is helping accelerate Sun Life's digital journey across the four strategic pillars of Asset Management, Canada, the USA, and Asia. These digital solutions are about building deeper digital relationships and more personalized experiences by putting clients at the center of everything.
On the Sun Life Global Solutions business and workforce expansion mentioned above, the plan is to hire up to 1,000 people over the next two years, across India and the Philippines. Sun Life Global Solutions takes pride in being a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization, working under an umbrella that is empowering, caring, and people centric. Sun Life Global Solutions is more than ready to take the wheel to design solutions, demonstrate industry leadership and embrace a BOLDER mindset. Further adding to the organisational Purpose, SLGS is playing its part in strengthening its commitment to climate and sustainability through a string of well-thought out and structured initiatives.
Drawing a reference to the Global In-house Center (GIC) industry in the Philippines, Tarun shared insights on the SLGS talent strategy. “Currently, the GIC industry in the Philippines has a great demand for data analytics, software engineers, agile coaches, data science, information security, data engineers and inbound and outbound agile coaches among others. Aligned to the industry requirements and Sun Life strategy, we are looking for like-minded individuals who share our passion for excellence, are purpose-driven, have a deep hunger for learning, inclusive and above all, have a can-do and caring attitude.”
In their Manila office, Sun Life Global Solutions has hired close to 400 people in the first half of 2023, and with the aggressive outlook that Tarun is projecting both here and in India, SLGS is looking at clocking the projected 1000 hired before the year ends.
Tarun also laid stress on the importance of soft skills, equating them with essential life skills. “The true spirit of a global ecosystem is the one where teamwork thrives, ambitions are powered and organisational values are upheld in everything one does. And both technical and soft skills play a key role. While one needs to continuously evolve technical skills to match pace with the dynamic industry landscape, soft skills stand out as a huge differentiator."

SLGS is closely aligned with the Sun Life Digital Enterprise strategy and is furthering various technology interventions. Sun Life Global Solutions is actively integrating digital and AI technologies within the Global Capability Centre sector and specifically at Sun Life for driving innovation, advanced product development, and enhancing the client and employee experience. The organisation is accelerating with a definite focus on leveraging Generative AI to create proofs-of-concept.
"We are designing personalized marketing campaigns to target specific customer segments based on their preferences, behaviours, and needs with the help of AI. Employee-facing chatbots are deployed to enhance employee productivity and experience. We have recently launched Sinag Chatbot and Campus Hiring in Metaverse to create an immersive and interactive candidate experience. Our Claims Prevention and Automation are being supported by AI, Machine Learning and Data Analytics to identify potential fraud or anomalies in insurance claims."
For enhanced data and analytics, SLGS is using technologies like Computer vision and Voice Biometrics. By leveraging these technologies, the aim is to enhance the customer experience, streamline operations, prevent fraud, and develop innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
Stitching the organisational fabric together is the rich culture of SLGS which is enabling, empowering, equitable, caring, diverse, and inclusive, where everyone feels belonged. "Ours is a culture that propels growth for its clients, people, brand, and stakeholders at large," says Tarun with a great sense of pride!
