“This morning, we raised a tropical cyclone wind signal in some parts of our country,” PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said in a mix of English and Filipino.

In the Batanes area, Villamil said Signal No. 1 was raised. As per PAGASA, minimal to minor threat to life and property is possible under this wind signal.

“Expect strong gusts of wind brought by the outer rainbands of 'Goring' within the next 36 hours,” he said. “Let's be prepared for the threats or hazards of strong winds in the coming days,” he added.

In its latest forecast, PAGASA spotted Typhoon Hanna 520 kilometers (km) east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

It was moving westward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

To exit PAR on Monday

PAGASA said that "Hanna" may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the afternoon or evening of Sept. 4.

“Once outside our area of responsibility, 'Hanna' is expected to remain almost stationary near the Taiwan Strait,” Villamil said.

‘Hanna’, he explained, is likely to continuously weaken, potentially reaching tropical depression status by late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Gale warning

As the enhanced southwest monsoon or "habagat" continued to persist, PAGASA raised a gale warning signal in the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and the remaining seaboards of Luzon and the Western seaboard of Visayas.

“Regarding our sea conditions, due to the persistent southwest monsoon or 'hanging habagat,' it continues to cause rough sea conditions in some parts of our country,” PAGASA said.
