Magnitude 4.3 quake jolts Masbate


A 4.3-magnitude earthquake jolted Masbate on Saturday morning, Sept. 2, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the epicenter was spotted eight kilometers (km) southeast of Pio V. Corpus in Masbate City at 12:03 a.m.

In its first bulletin, Phivolcs initially measured the quake's magnitude at 4.2 but later revised it to 4.3.

The tectonic-origin earthquake with a depth focus of seven km was felt in Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Pio V. Corpus, Masbate City, while Intensity II (slightly felt) in Almeria and Kawayan, Biliran City.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs' instruments recorded the Kawayan, Biliran City under Intensity II, while Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Maripipi, Biliran City, and Calubian in Leyte. 

Moreover, Phivolcs does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
