K-12 students in Pasig to get transport allowance -- Mayor Vico
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Friday night, Sept. 1, that all students included in the kindergarten to grade 12 (K-12) program under the Department of Education (DepEd) - Pasig will receive transport allowances for this school year.
In a social media post, Sotto said each student will receive P1,500 from the local government.
A distribution schedule will be conducted from Sept. 6 to 15, he added, with additional details to be provided on a later date.
The mayor hoped that the transport allowance could financially assist students this year since the local government experienced unexpected delays in the delivery and distribution of school supplies.
One of the reasons stated by Sotto was the disqualification of a supplier for substandard quality or materials used for the supplies.

However, he assured students that the local government will continue to provide school supplies within the academic year once the issues have been resolved.
The school supplies annually provided by the city include bags, notebooks, ballpens, pencils, color pens, and crayons among others; all bearing the current Pasig logo.
"Ako po ay humihingi ng pasensya. First time lang din natin ito; maaasahan niyo na sa susunod na school year ay mas aagahan namin ang time-line (I am asking for your patience and understanding. It is our first time doing this. You can expect that, for the next school year, we will set an earlier timeline [to allot for buffers and delays])," Sotto said.

Meanwhile, the delivery of the first tranche for the Malusog na Batang Pasigueño (MBP) program has begun.
The MBP pertains to the local government's nutrition initiative to help public school students consume nutritious food as they study and learn in schools and at home.
The food packs contain items that have the "Sangkap Pinoy" seal, which will help prevent malnutrition and improve brain development in children and young people.
Included in the first tranche were the distribution of food such as tuna, iodized salt, and vitamins to student beneficiaries.
The local government will give out milk products for the second tranche of the MBP this September.
The distribution of rice for the third tranche will happen this semester.
Moreover, Sotto expressed his gratitude and well wishes to Pasigueño students for this school year.
