A man who identified himself as a former police official was arrested after handguns and shotguns were found inside his vehicle while he was entering Camp Crame in Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 19.
Police would not identify the arrested suspect but based on the initial information, the 11 handguns and four shotguns were discovered by policemen manning the Gate 2 of Camp Crame when the suspect’s vehicle was undergoing inspection on its way inside the camp.
The guns, police said, were found inside the trunk of the suspect’s vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Altis.
The discovery of the guns came while a gun ban is in effect. The gun ban started on Aug. 28 as part of the security measures for the barangay elections.
The gun ban prohibits the transportation of firearms unless approved by the Commission on Elections
It was not immediately clear why the man attempted to bring 15 firearms inside the PNP's headquarters but he and his vehicle were taken to the Headquarters Support Service (HSS) office at Camp Crame.
The suspect was later brought to the office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for further investigation.
