A 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Oriental Mindoro at 7:01 p.m. on Monday, Sept 18, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Its epicenter was traced 34 kilometers southwest of Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.
The earthquake's initial magnitude was 4.7, but Phivolcs revised it to 4.9.
Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at Intensity III (weak) in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro; Intensity II (slightly felt) in Abra de Ilog and Calintaan in Occidental Mindoro, and Bansud, Calapan City, Naujan, and San Teodoro in Oriental Mindoro; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Baco, Puerto Galera, and Socorro in Oriental Mindoro and Concepcion in Romblon.
It also said that the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs noted that the earthquake may have caused damage to houses, buildings, and other infrastructures.
However, it does not expect aftershocks because of this earthquake. (Lizst Torres Abello)
