The Department of Health (DOH) joined the Philippine delegation's events at the United Nations General Assembly, which was held in New York City from Sept. 19 to 23.
The World Health Organization (WHO) organized the second "Walk the Talk New York" event on Sept. 18, which served as the official start to the United Nations (UN) events.
According to the DOH's Facebook post, hundreds of partners, stakeholders, UN delegates, member-states, athletes, and people from all walks of life participated in the event, which included a 6.4-kilometer walk around Central Park to celebrate healthy lifestyles.
The DOH delegation, led by Undersecretaries Enrique Tayag and Kenneth Ronquillo, walked the entire route and engaged in various health-related activities.
Distinguished guests at the event included WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Amy Pope from the International Organization for Migration, and other prominent health leaders.
“This year's event emphasized the importance of collective action in conveying a message to the world: health is not a luxury but a fundamental human right for all,” the DOH said. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
