Anakbayan commends bravery of 'abducted' environmental activists
Progressive group Anakbayan on Tuesday, Sept. 19 praised two environmental activists, Jhed Tamano and Jonila Castro, for their “bravery in exposing the lies” about their “abduction.”

Tamano and Castro were reportedly abducted on Sept. 2 by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 70th Infantry Battalion in Orion, Bataan, while preparing for a relief operation in the area.
Anakbayan commended Tamano and Castro’s courage in “strengthening the truth” in the face of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict’s (NTF-ELCAC) “intent to parade the two abducted activists as surrenderees” in a press conference.
“The NTF-ELCAC and AFP’s empty phrase mongering of how ‘the truth will set us free’ has turned squarely against their necks,” the group said.
“Jhed and Jonila straightforwardly crushed the state narrative of being ‘surrenderees’ and further strengthened the truth that they are abductees,” it added.
Anakbayan also asked for the release of the two activists “in pursuit of justice.” (Lizst Torres Abello)
